iTunes is the bane of my existance

It all started when I decided to get Kelly an mp3 player for her birthday in November. Being such a huge advocate of my Rio Karma, which has been discontinued, I decided to research into something that could live up to such a device. After much research, I found that the Trekstor Vibez 12GB mp3 player was a great device that could live up to the greatness of the Rio Karma.

What was great about the Rio Karma? Better sound quality, an equalizer (that was not available in the iPod at the time of purchase in 2004), support of ogg, flac, aac, and non-stop playback, and not to mention cheaper than the iPod by about $100.

The case was still true for the Trekstor, sans equalizer, so I found a place online to purchase from. Unfortunately, since the product is designed and manufactured in Germany, there was only one or two places that would import it. After shipment I eagerly tried it out, but to my dismay, it didn't work, at all. Unfortunately the importer provided a poor return policy and for audio devices would not repair them, I decided to return the item for a refund.

After this fiasco, along with other birthday present failures, I decided to go with the fail-safe iPod Touch. If it broke, at least I could take it somewhere to get fixed.

I had installed iTunes a couple of times before, just to play around with it and didn't care for the software. I didn't care for its bundling of Quicktime and a few other features I didn't care for, but I thought I would take it all in strides to own this cool little device.

48 hours after installation, my computer ground to a halt. No response was able to be made, a total reboot had to be made. 5 minutes later after reboot, the same thing. I then rebooted again and tried uninstalling the last apps that were installed, namely iTunes. Problem solved.

Until MediaMonkey or the iPod Winamp plugin supports the iPod touch I unfortunately have to live with the uninstalling/installing of iTunes just to connect to the iPod.

As far as the iPod Touch, it's freaking awesome, a very cool little toy.

Overhyping the End of Facebook

After reading various articles about the so called end of facebook, I thought I would weigh in and give my 2 cents. For those who don't know about Facegate, here's a quick rundown.

Facebook auctions off a percentage of shares, which turns into a bid war between MS and Google.
Google loses the bid war, but no matter, they announce OpenSocial a week later.
To keep up with the internet monster, Facebook announces it's new ad plan which is powered by Beacon
MoveOn publicly criticizes Facebook for privacy concerns, the internets blows it's top.
The back lash begins, and Facebook starts losing advertisers, namely Coke, everyone gets cold feet.
Finally, today Facebook apologizes and makes it possible to opt-out globally.

I've read a few articles saying that Facebook is done, it's declining, etc. But the thing is, probably only 3% of the populations knows this story. Of that, probably %2 use Facebook, and of that, probably %1 actually care. So, I don't think this will really do anything to Facebook's audience. The reason that Facebook got so popular is because of security and stupid, pointless applications. Yes, MySpace killed Friendster, and Facebook killed MySpace, but I feel it will be a while before Facebook sees a decline in it's audience.

2008 Presidential Candicy Match Quiz

I just took this quiz to roughly find out what candidate best fits with my views, as I am not surprised my results showed that I was a 85% match with Kucinich. However, I feel if the primary was held tomorrow I would still vote for Edwards, he seems to be the best feasible candidate that I agree with.

Crazy Weekend

Last Thursday I got a call from daycare saying that Arden had a fever of 100 and that I had to pick her up. This was her second fever in a week and the doctor said to bring her back in if she got another one. So after visiting the doctor and giving her a blood and urine sample, we had to wait until the next morning to see if she had anything. Unfortunately, on Friday morning we found out that Arden had to be admitted to the hospital to be put on an IV. The doctor that since she is so young that she should be put on antibiotics. After many tests, it was discovered that she had strep throat and was released last Sunday around noon. She is fine now and back at daycare after being given a clean bill of health by the doctor.

I'm back!

I got hitched a couple of weeks ago and I'm back from the honeymoon. You can see some of the photos from the Honeymoon on my flickr page. I'll be uploading some more wedding pictures later.

I have been trying to get back up to date on things, I picked up the new Neko Case album, along with Ghostface and Cat Power.

I've found a new interest in the Wu-Tang after my wedding. So I've gone out and gotten DJ Muggs vs. GZA, Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, and Ghostface - Supreme Clientele. I have to thank Patrick for suggesting Supreme Clientele. Previously, I had bought Ghostface's latest, The Pretty Toney Album, but wasn't very impressed. But I have definitely been liking what I have heard on Supreme Clientele, thanks Patrick!

2005 Year End Album List

Today I started making a list of all the albums that I got this year. Right now, I have listed 34 albums, I'm waiting on one in the mail, and I still have yet to listen to five others. I also started to try and order them, which is a real beast to try and determine which was better, Spoon or Bloc Party? I think I have finally come to the conclusion of what will be the best album of the year. I know it's a little premature since I have to listen to six albums but I think I finally found an album to fall in the same category as album of the decade with Modest Mouse's The Moon and Antarctica.

Home Site

Ok, well I finally got my home site backup, the main word there is home site. Because I supposedly have http://deadbeef.dynalias.com linked/aliased to my home site but I have not been able to visit this site from work. I even have a script that updates my ip to the dynamic dns alias, still haven't been able to get it to work. The only thing I can think of is that for some reason work is blocking it. Nope TCT just verified that it's my router. Good to know. Well, I better get back to painting...

Sun Kil Moon - Tiny Cities

Back in 2003 Sun Kil Moon aka Mark Kozelek put out a great folk album Ghosts of the Great Highway. Now he's back with Tiny Cities, an album of all cover tunes of Modest Mouse. I love Modest Mouse and I have to say I was anxious to see how this album would come out. And I have to say that this is everything what I expected and more.

Including songs from almost all of Modest Mouse discography, it strips out the typically energetic rock and allows the listener to pay more attention to the lyrics and realize how great of songwriter Isaac Brock is. Even Tiny Cities Made of Ashes which was one of my least favorite songs, and got very few listens, is now one of my favorites. It is going to be very hard to narrow down a top 10 album list by the end of the year at this rate. Note: Sun Kil Moon's - Tiny Cities comes out next Tuesday, November 1st, 2005.

TV Sucks

I just watched a terrible movie last night. Sometimes you're in the mood for a bad movie, kind of like Alien vs. Predator, which may I add is better than I expected. But this movie's poor quality took me by surprise. Ok first off, it has Clint Eastwood. Ok Oscar winner, did Mystic River, The Good, Bad, and the Ugly, Million Dollar Baby, can't go wrong no? Wrong. The movie was shown on HBO Signature, all the movies are classics, right? Wrong. It's a drama/murder mystery, oh I love those! Let me reiterate, this movie was awful! This movie was so predictable, poorly written, and terribly directed. The movie played like James Bond was the lead character in Basic Instinct, but at least Basic Instinct was a good movie! So, next time you see this on tv and you think might want to waste 115 minutes of your life, try watching Alien vs. Predator. Excuse me while I write a letter to Clint asking for 115 minutes of my life back.
